Sacramental Preparations (RCIA) for Teenagers
Our RCIA for Teens class is an adaptation after the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). This class is for three groups of teens:
1. Those who have not yet been baptized;
2. Those who were baptized in a non-Catholic Christian community but would now like to become Catholic;
3. Those who were baptized Catholic but have not yet received the sacraments of First Communion and/or Confirmation.
If you have a child in 8th through 12th grade who falls into one of these categories, please contact Thomas Patchan, Minister of Religious Education, to register for the RCIA for Teens program.
The class meets on Sunday mornings from 10:15 - 11:45 am, at the same time as the other CCD classes. If a student is unavailable at this time, we may be able to find another meeting time. The students in the RCIA for Teens class discuss the Catholic faith with their teacher, either a Deacon or a St. Mary's employee, using an annotated Catechism of the Catholic Church for review.The RCIA for Teens program includes two school years of preparation. For example, teens who begin the program in September of 2019 will receive the Sacraments of the Church in the spring of 2021.
Teens in their second year of the program will receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and/or Eucharist during the Easter Vigil Mass, the first Mass of Easter, which is celebrated on the Saturday night before Easter Sunday.
Please be in touch with Thomas Patchan if you have any questions.
