The Angel Gabriel announces to Mary that God is asking her to be the mother of the long-awaited Messiah.
Luke Chapter 1 Verse 26

Jesus is born in Bethlehem. Mary lays Him in a manger. Shepherds are visited by angels who announce Jesus' birth. The angels sing "Glory to God in the Highest" and proclaim that the newborn Jesus is the Messiah and Lord. The shepherds find Jesus, Mary, and Joseph and tell the family what they have seen.
