"Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the 'sacraments of Christian initiation, whose unity must be safeguarded.' . . . The reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace." Catechism of the Catholic Church 1285
For children...
Do you have child or teenager who is ready to be confirmed? Preparation for this important sacrament takes place either in Catholic school or in our CCD classes, which begin Sundays in September and end in May. Preparation includes additional spiritual, service, and community activities with the candidate's family and parish, including two retreats the year before Confirmation. Two years of preparation are required before a child can be confirmed. In the Archdiocese of Washington, Confirmation is usually received in the Spring of a child's eighth grade year (preparation begins in seventh grade), but preparation classes are also available for older teens. Please see the
Children's Faith Formation section of our website for information about registration.
St. Mary's Confirmation candidates learn about Pentecost at their Confirmation retreat at the Franciscan Monastery in DC.
For adults...
Are you or do you know an adult Catholic who has not been confirmed? Classes are available to help you prepare for your Confirmation during the Easter season for Confirmation, generally offered for adults by the Archbishop each Pentecost, which was May 23rd, 2021.
In 2021, we offered these classes through weekly meetings, Mondays at 7 pm from Monday, April 5th through Monday, May 17th. At these meetings, we discussed the central Catholic teachings, including on Confirmation and the Sacraments, Jesus, and morality.
Our next adult Confirmation classes will begin next Easter season in 2022, to receive Confirmation on June 5th, 2022.
If you are interested in joining for Confirmation preparation, p
lease contact Catherine Gallerizzo-Oyster for more information and/or to register for the class. smrockville@gmail.com
