Right To Life
"Those who pray and those who offer help to women at abortuaries, in the metropolitan area, saved 180 women and their babies from abortion in 2007 and 77 as of June 30th this
year. When women, headed for an abortion, decide to choose life instead, they are almost always overwhelmed with joy at having spared their babies' lives.
Unfortunately, people who say they are pro-choice prevent many women from hearing about the help available to them."
"Thank you to all who participated in a very successful Mother's Day sale of carnations. RTLMC depends greatly on the funds raised to continue our work on behalf of mothers, the pre-born, and all human life.
T hank you for advancing the sanctity of life. When you help, you are doing God's work and proclaiming the Gospel that life is sacred."

A Message to all Ministers: Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Ushers, Altar Servers, Cantors:
Summer is now upon us, a time when schedules may need to respond to a different drummer. However, during this time of year, the schedule of the church remains the same. If your drum leads you in a summer direction that does not include St. Mary’s, please make certain that your ministry duty is covered. If you do not have a complete listing of others in your service group, contact the Rectory and one will be sent. We ask that you try to find a substitute yourself before contacting the coordinator or calling the Rectory. Everyone’s ministry is an integral part of the whole community and your job is an important one.
Please come to Church ready to support the Liturgy, whenever necessary. During the summer especially, vacations invariably affect assignment schedules and additional assistance is needed on occasion. We ask that you check in at the Sacristy and Ushers’ Office every Sunday to make sure substitutes are not needed. Let the Sacristan know you are available.

Attn: All Sodalists and Interested
Parishioners
The first meeting on Wednesday, September 10, begins with the Recitation of the Rosary and Mass followed by a brief meeting/social. Please arrive at Our Lady’s Chapel by 7:00 pm. Mark your calendars for this meeting and look for more information regarding upcoming events and schedule modifications in the September Mary’s Notes.
Men’s Weekend Retreat
The men of St. Mary’s will make their annual retreat to Loyola Retreat House in Faulkner, MD, on the weekend of September 5-7. All men of the parish are invited to join us in this peaceful, wooded setting overlooking the Potomac River for a weekend of prayer, reflection, and rest. The retreat begins on Friday with an orientation at 6:45 pm and dinner at 7 pm and concludes with lunch on Sunday at 12:30 pm. The retreats are conducted in an atmosphere of silence.
Mass is offered on Saturday and Sunday (An optional Mass is also available on Friday at 6 pm.); the Sacrament of Reconciliation is available on Saturday and before dinner on Friday, and generous blocks of time are provided for prayer and the cultivation of a deep relationship with God. The $215.00 cost of the weekend includes dinner on Friday evening, three meals on Saturday, and breakfast and lunch on Sunday. A $108.00 deposit is required to register and should be sent to Loyola Retreat House, P.O. Box 9, Faulkner, MD 20632. For additional information, call Paul Benkert at 301-340-0276 or visit Loyola’s Web site at
www.loyolaretreat.org.
RCIA
Sometimes you feel like becoming a Catholic and sometimes you don’t.
Does this describe you, your spouse, or a good friend? If the answer is "yes," that’s good. It’s a big step and should not be taken lightly.
St. Mary’s will host a series of meetings beginning in October for those who wish to explore the Catholic faith, ask questions, and seek information without obligation or pressure. Learn about our parish RCIA
(Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) process.
For a free brochure entitled “How Does A Person Become A Catholic,” call Norma or Roger Langley at 301-762-2560.
Boy Scouts
Do you know any young men, 11 to 18, looking for something to do?
Joining Boy Scouts Troop 472, sponsored by St. Mary’s Church, may be just the answer. Scouts from Troop 472 go camping, play laser tag, clean up St. Mary’s cemetery, hike the Billy Goat trail, bike on the C&O Canal towpath, swim, shoot, collect food for the needy, sell & deliver mulch to support troop activities, and rock climb. And that’s just a sampling. In addition, they learn about knots, first aid, emergency preparedness, cooking, personal fitness, family life skills, citizenship, computers, maps and compasses, personal management, religions, chemistry and much more. Over the last few years, Troop 472 has produced 15 Eagle Scouts (with 3 more possible in the next few months!) -- all while learning the values of being “trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.” If you are interested, contact Dave Neimeyer at 301-340-7536 or neimeyer@us.net.
St. Mary’s Library Needs Volunteers
Our
parish library, located in the church’s main entrance, needs
volunteers to assist parishioners with questions on how to utilize
the library and to monitor the “Free CD” rack when items need to
be replenished. Help is required only ten minutes prior to Mass and
15 minutes after. (The library is currently run by Mary Neumann.
Mary has just retired from the Montgomery County School system as a
librarian and in the fall will be working part-time as St. Mary’s
School librarian.) Ideally, the library could use a volunteer for
each of the weekend Masses. The only requirement is a willingness to
assist just before and after one or two Masses a month on a regular
basis. Please call Mary at 301- 838-9338 for more details.
The library is not only one of the best ways to find Catholic
materials in book, CD, DVD or video formats but it is closer than
Gallery in Gaithersburg or the National Shrine of the Immaculate
Conception. This is a wonderful resource for those interested in
delving deeper into their faith or wish to add to their spiritual
reading. There is a children’s section with books and videos as
well. Even if you are not able to volunteer, please encourage
younger family members, in particular, to use the library to read
about the various saints, apologetics; listen to Christian music
CDs; or pick up a sampling of Catholic weekly or monthly
periodicals. Please drop in and discover all we have to offer.
